Last year, Penguin Random House reached out to us looking for an aerial photograph to serve as the cover for an upcoming novel. The book, titled The Familiar Dark, was written by Missouri author Amy Engel. The setting for the novel takes place in the poorest part of the Missouri Ozarks, promising a small town with big secrets.
Amy and Penguin Random House felt that the cover photo would ideally feature an authentic Ozark landscape with harsh snow atmosphere. Which is where Ozark Drones aerial photography comes in to play. We pulled several photos from our library that we felt fit the theme of the novel. Amy and Penguin Random House settled on a top-down photograph we had of Arkansas Highway 374. The photo showcases snowy Ozark terrain, with mountain ridges on both sides of the highway.
The same photograph is also going to be used for the Dutch edition of the book. We very much appreciative the opportunity to be a part of the novel Amy Engel has written. The hardcover version of the book is set for release on March 31st, 2020.
